Linear painting – find my real self through art creation
Art creation is a form of the artist’s self-expression, a self-exploration process in which the artist starts from the self, goes out to experience and feel and then returns to the self, and an outlet of the artist’s feelings. Starting from the “self”, artists create art works to relieve pressure and seek spiritual comfort. Meanwhile, the art works reflect the artist’s personal traits and realize the artist’s value.
If the young artists are divided into two schools – “academism” and “self-development seeking school”, then I belong to the latter because my art works feature subjectivity and high sensitivity to the outside world. I enjoy studying different art forms and don’t confine myself to certain art-creation media. My works are usually diversified in form, with diverse inner feelings to express. Thus, I am averse to confinement within a certain field and want to explore my own inner feelings, believing that art originates in the self.
Two of my works – “Who Am I” and “Self Portrait”, are inspired by one of my favorite young artist – Shi Kefan whose ball-pen illustration “Just A Dream” and printmaking works “Fun Deep Into the Night” and “Look At Those Two” provided much inspiration.

“Who are you?”
The girl in Who are you? is me. Though locked up in a bird coop, I am not confined in my art creation; the other side of the coop is a delicate half-face, representing an artist’s golden ages for art creation. Yet, the lower part of the coop resembled a half skull, referring to the value and significance of an artist’s works after he/she dies.
“Self Portrait”
Like Shi Kefan, I also like butterflies, a combined symbol of mystery, delicacy and beauty. I hope my self-portrait can give a sense of mystery and irresistible charm.
Everyone is seeking value for his/her life: what can I do to the world? What’s the value of my art works? These are the questions to which I will spend my whole life to find answers.
